Koen Boeijinga travels with a herd of instruments. As a modern nomad, he roams musical pastures, drawn by the archaic kinship between human, animal and landscape. Flutes, saxophone, bagpipes, drums, harmonium, gamelan and other sounds from his global instrument collection unfold a contemporary, hypnotic shepherd's tale.

Music of the Herd 𓃔
Music of the Herd is Koen Boeijinga’s solo project: a one-man band in which he plays multiple instruments at once, moving between soprano saxophone, flutes, bagpipe, harmonium, gamelan, drums, percussion and subtle effects.
Koen sees his instruments as his herd. He travels with them, looks after them and develops a relationship with them. In turn, they shape the music and take on a life of their own.
The name Music of the Herd also points to the close relationship many of these instruments have with the animal world, as well as the symbolic presence animals have in our collective imagination. Goat-skin bagpipes, drums made from animal hide, cowbells and other instruments carry traces of an ancient connection between humans, animals and the landscape.
The music makes you drift through imaginary landscapes. Atmospheric, layered and hypnotic sound worlds are built entirely from acoustic instruments. It is music to wander through and get lost in — to follow the herd and see where it takes you.
